A miscellany of weekly ramblings on comics, art and film by Ted Mathot, storyboard artist and writer/artist/self-publisher of graphic novels and comics
For those who are interested in Rose and Isabel but haven't had a chance to see the inside of the book, here is a five page sample of part 1. click to enlarge
Just wanted to say what a great book you've produced! I also enjoy seeing the process that you've shared with us. I look forward to dropping in to see more of your amazing work. Just curious, but what was your time schedule like?
I just finished reading part 2 of Rose and Isabel, and wanted to congratulate you on the best graphic novel I've read in years. I saw R&I reviewed in Boing Boing, ordered it, and haven't enjoyed or been moved so much by anything since Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. (Between then and now Gareth Hinds's Beowulf was the only thing that I really enjoyed.) The way you use facial expressions to portray strong emotions is more powerful than anything I've seen in this genre. (Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Cars and Ratatouille as well.) Civil War history and culture is big here in Lexington, Virginia -- I live next to the cemetery where Stonewall Jackson is buried, and work up the hill from the tomb of Robert E. Lee -- so I was afraid I'd be bored by the topic, but you've breathed new life into it. I look forward very much to whatever you do next.
